Bike to Work and School Days are coming up!  Join the hundreds of cyclists that ride to work or school in Pleasanton.  The City of Pleasanton along with the cities of Dublin and
Livermore, Hacienda Business Park, Alameda County Public Works Agency and Dublin Cyclery are celebrating the 20th Annual Bike to Work Day by hosting energizer stations on Thursday, May 8th from 6:30 – 9:00am at the East and West Dublin/Pleasanton BART stations.  A 3rd station will be located in front of Foothill High School and co-sponsored by the City of Pleasanton, Alameda County Safe Routes to School Program and Foothill High Earth Club.  Additional energizer stations are planned in the
Tri-Valley.  A limited quantity of free t-shirts (designated with asterisk below) and bags filled with local giveaways and coupons as well as refreshments will be available at select stations.  *Free t-shirt station

Urban Cycling 101: a two-day class for adults and teens

Day 1: Classroom Workshop

This fun and entertaining workshop is taught by East Bay Bicycle Coalition bicycle safety instructors certified by the League of American Bicyclists. Learn basic rules of the road, how to share the road with cars on busy streets, equip your bicycle, fit your helmet, use transit, and avoid crashes by riding predictably, visibly, and communicating with motorists by your actions and signals. No bike required.

Day 2: Road Class:

Join us for a half day of bike riding! This is the second part of Urban Cycling 101. We’ll cover on-road, on-your-bike practice sessions, working in small groups with our certified instructors to improve your handling skills, learn crash-avoidance maneuvers, and ability to bike confidently on any street. A functional bike and helmet is required, drinks and snacks provided.  (Please note: Attendance at one of our “Day 1” classroom workshops is a pre-requisite to attending a road class. If you are unable to make one of our classroom sessions before a road class date, however, contact our Education Coordinator Robert Prinz at for an alternate arrangement.)

One-Hour Commuter Workshop:

This 1-hour, interactive classroom course is perfect for introducing the concepts of biking for transportation and encouraging a healthy commute. Each class is hosted by a League of American Bicyclists-certified instructor, who will teach the basics of bike commuting, crash avoidance, and bicyclist rights and responsibilities. You will also learn how to outfit your bike, how to take a bike on transit and how to bike smart while having fun.  This workshop is hosted by the Hacienda Owners Association & City of Pleasanton.

Family Cycling Workshop

The family that rides together thrives together! Safe road bicycling takes a lot more than balance, a helmet and a good attitude. Join the East Bay Bicycle Coalition’s League Certified safety instructors for a day of fun games, safety drills, skills building, and a neighborhood ride. This workshop is for kids able to ride a bike and who are ready to ride on the roadways with their parents. Parents and kids must attend together and should bring their own bikes. Each child receives a free red blinky light for participating!

Foothill High School will host a Bike to School Day and energizer station on Thursday, May 8th from 7:00 – 8:30 a.m.  Cyclists will be greeted with refreshments, bike commute bags and free Bike to Work t-shirts, while supplies last.  The Bike to Work/School Energizer Station is co-sponsored by the City of Pleasanton, Alameda County Safe Routes to School Program and Foothill High School Earth Club.
Hart and Harvest Park middle schools will host Bike to School Day on Wednesday, May 7th with Pleasanton Middle School’s event on Thursday, May 8th. Student and staff cyclists will be greeted in the morning with refreshments and giveaways at mini-energizer stations.


The City of Pleasanton and Pleasanton Police Department will hold bike helmet fittings and helmet giveaways to help get students ready for Bike to School days.  Helmet fittings and giveaways will take place after school on the following dates.  Students must turn in a signed permission slip to receive a helmet.  Permission slips will be available from the school office in early April.  Helmet quantities are limited and reserved for those students in need. The BikeMobile will also be on hand to complete minor bike repairs at Pleasanton Middle and Harvest Park Middle schools from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m.  Sign up at your school office!
